Listing Auctions in a Cycle

The Auction Cycle field is provided to allow you to assign an Auction Cycle to your auction records; this assists with managing your auction records - and therefore your auctions and product items - more effectively and productively in the auction console

Dividing your auctions up into cycles is a useful way organising which items/auctions get listed at what times via the windows scheduler.

If you want to automate the listing of auctions to Sella in groups this is the best way to do it. Create a cycle for each different set of auctions you wish to load (you can have a product in more than one cycle). Use the scheduler to load that cycle at times and/or days of your choosing. Using clones and assigning them to a cycle can automate this procedure even further.

What is an Auction Cycle?

An Auction Cycle is a logical grouping of a subset of your auction records which you intend to load or relist as a group at the same time.

This may be of useful where you have several product lines which you wish to load at different times in order to take advantage of the potentially different browsing audience.

Alternatively you may want to separately prepare and load groups of auctions based on some other periodic event, for instance:
  • Arrival of batches of stock
  • Stock from different suppliers
  • Changing of the seasons
You may even just want to simply load and manage your auctions so that every second week is a lazy week with fewer auctions loaded and ending.

The key idea is that you wish to group your items in such a way that you are able to load and relist different groups of auctions independently and in a way that is meaningful to you.

Why use an Auction Cycle?

Using auction cycles allows you to more effectively manage the auctions being loaded by splitting the auctions up on a basis that is meaningful and reflects your business processes and ordering cycle.

By assigning auction cycles you can use the Auction Console and other Auctionitis processes to help you ensure that:
  • Auctions I only load on weekends are all I am loading
  • I am not loading auctions I have prepared while awaiting arrival of stock
  • I am only loading a particular subset of my auctions
Depending on how you group your product items there are many more possibilities as to how you might take advantage of this feature.

Managing Auction Cycles

Auction Cycles are managed from the Edit >Auction Cycles Menu option.  This provides the capability to add, delete and re-sequence auction cycles.

In order to add an auction cycle, enter the auction cycle name, sequence and description fields and click the add button.

This example will add a new Auction Cycle titled DailyDeals and will place the new auction cycle at the top of the cycle list.   The sequence number is used to determine what order the auction cycles will sort in when sorting on auction cycle in the Auctionitis console.

To delete an auction cycle right click on the item to be deleted to display the Auction Cycle context menu.

Clicking the Delete option will cause the Auction Cycle to be deleted. The Auction Cycle sort sequence can be altered by clicking the Move Up or Move Down options to move the selected item up or down the list of available Auction Cycles.

Assigning an Auction Cycle

Once created, an auction cycle can be assigned to an auction by either
  1. The Auction Input Screen Relist options tab
  2. Tools >Set Selected Auction Cycle Menu Option
Listing Auctions in a Cycle

Auctions in an auction cycle are not loaded as part of the normal Load All or Process All processes but must be loaded using the Load Auction Cycle process.

  1. The Load Cycle function is started from the Sella >Load Cycle menu option
  2. Once the required Auction Cycle has been selected the Auctionitis task list screen will be displayed and the Load Cycle process starts

Additional Notes:

Auctions assigned to an Auction Cycle can also be loaded using the Scheduler.
