What is a Batch File?
A batch file is a simple file that can be created in notepad which comes with all Windows Operating Systems. It's a quick an simple way to get Auctionitis to run a lot of commands one after another without having to schedule each different or command or activity.
If you know what you want to do, but batch files are not something you wnat to get involved with, get in touch with us and we can do this for you as part of our standard service.
When you have a batch file and tell the scheduler to run it, it runs several commands one after the other from the same file without being bound by the time constraints of scheduling multiple activities that can be slowed down because of internet activity, bandwidth, Website outages etc.
How can this help me?
- Fewer keystrokes required to perform computer operations
- Less chance of making typing errors
- Short commands are easier to remember than a long series of keystrokes
- One command executes an extended chain of complicated operations
- Decisions can be automatically made for the user
- Major time savings
How can I make a Batch File?
Open Windows Notepad

Type in the commands you want to run one after another.

File >Save As

Navigate to c:/Program Files/Auctionitis to save the file as follows

- Save the batch file to c:/Program Files/Auctionitis directory
- File Name: Remeber the file name as you will need this for the scheduler and remember to add .bat to the end of the file name, for example myfileiscool.bat
- Save as Type: set to All Files
- Click Save
Why not just use the scheduler?
With a standard scheduler only one task can be executed at one time. If you have several tasks that you want to run one after another, there is a risk that the first task may still be running when the second task is due to start and therefore the second task won't start.
For example, Jack has scheduled a Load All at 8pm and a Make Offers at 9pm. At 9.00pm Jacks auctions are stlill loading, the scheduler will attempt to start to make the offers but be unable to. This means that the job scheduled at 9pm wont happen.
By using a batch file Jack would tell be telling the scheduler to run the tasks one after another once each has completed. Therefore there are no issues regarding tasks not starting due to time overlaps.
