Import From CSV/Other File Formats
There is currently no standard .csv import process for importing data to Auctionitis. There are two primary reasons for this:
- The complexity of the data actually required to use a .csv as input for raw auction data
- The time required to code a sufficiently flexible interface to handle that complexity
In general, the main stumbling blocks (ignoring mapping and data typing issues) are:
- Imposing the Trade Me/Sella formatting rules (e.g. 50 characters for title, etc)
- Building a decent product description and formatting it correctly including line breaks
- Assigning the appropriate Trade Me/Sella category
Auctionitis have developed customised import processes for people with .csv files to allow data to be imported and to provide a bridge between the sellers inventory system and Auctionitis, even going as far as to integrate getting data and images from web sites and making pricing and stock decisions as part of this process.
There is no associated commercial GUI. Building the required tools is not that expensive when measured against the productivity gains and the advantage of doing product and inventory maintenance in one location instead of two.
The issues noted above can be worked around without too much trouble if the person/s generating the .csv file understand what is required. Auctionitis have already developed a fairly generic program that doesn't require a lot of modification unless the seller has a lot of additional requirements. Further, we can provide plenty of advice as to what works as we have considerable experience doing this.
Auctionitis have also done some work to provide a sales feed for integration to allow Trade Me sales to be fed into the sellers back-end systems or their web site to allow automation of the fulfillment process or a better sales experience. We've also done work to update pricing and stock levels in Auctionitis using a .csv as input.
