Product Templates

At the most basic level, an Auction Template is simply an auction record that is used as a basic starting point to create other auctions. In addition to the values that can be saved by setting up different default sets, an Auction Template can contain every detail of an auction ready to be turned into a new auction.

Further, Auction Templates can easily be copied into new auctions without the need to start a new auction and add additional details to the default values. This can make using templates a powerful way to manage and maintain your auction based business with the minimum of effort.

Some other points about template auctions:
  • Template auctions are not included in the Auction Load process
  • Template auctions are not included in the Auction Relist process
  • Pictures added to Template Auctions WILL be uploaded to TradeMe
  • Template auctions have a status of TEMPLATE
  • Template auctions will have the normal validity checking process applied
Creating an auction template is a straightforward process.

Simply create a new auction and fill in all of the required details. Before saving click the Template checkbox located in the bottom right hand corner of the Auction Input screen. Once you have ticked the "template" checkbox you cannot also tick the "clone" checkbox (and vice versa).Click the Save button and the auction will be saved as a TEMPLATE auction.

If you need to create a template from an existing auction, use the Copy to Template function available from Tools or right click menu. Auction Templates are designed to be used to quickly and easily create new auctions from an existing standard set of auction(s). Use Templates to provide complete auction details.

Templates are great for providing every required detail for an auction; use them wherever you want to create a complete new auction. If you just want to start with the basic details consider using a default set. Fill in all the details in your auction template to as detailed a level as possible.

Take advantage of being able to prepare your auction off-line and make the description as detailed and accurate as possible. The greater the level of detail in your auction the greater the trust you will instill in your prospective customers. Using a detailed, accurate template will help you to gain this trust every time. If possible proof read your template a second time. Go back to your template again some time after creating it and re-read it; you may be surprised to find that you can still find room for improvements.

Assign a Product Type to your templates

Using a Product Type in conjunction with your auction templates will allow you to quickly and easily build a list of auctions ready for upload. Sorting by Auction Status and Filtering by Product Type makes it simple to see what auctions are currently active and what you need to load.

Mass-copy groups of auctions using the Copy to New Function

Once you have a quality set of templates built it is a simple process to select the templates
you need to load then copy them to new auctions using the Copy Selected to New menu
Option.

Relist multiple auctions from the same template

Run several auctions for the same item with "relist from template". If a change needs to be
made to the auction updating the template will mean all auctions "relisted from template"
will be updated when they are next listed on TradeMe. This saves multiple manual updates of
individual auction records.
