Product Types
There are some additional fields located on the Relist Options Tab which can be used to assist in managing your auctions. These fields allow you to save product information about your auctions to the Auctionitis auction database.
A Product Type is a logical grouping of a subset of your products based on one or more characteristics the products have in common. Ideally this logical grouping will be small enough to enable you to manage it easily but large enough to represent a reasonably broad category of your auctions.
If you sell a number of different items or even many items of a similar type it can be useful to break these items up into smaller groups to make them more manageable. Setting up a Product Type for your auctions can allow you to do this.
For example if you sell a range of beauty and health products you might create Product Types of:

Eye-care
-
Lipsticks
-
Cleansing
A similar but equally valid approach might see you set up types of:
-
Under $5
-
$5 to $25
-
Over $25
The key idea is to group your items in such a way that you are able to work with each group independently in a way that is meaningful to you.
Using product types allows you to focus more effectively on your auctions by breaking up your auctions into smaller and more manageable chunks. By assigning product types you can use the Auction Console to search, sort and filter your auction to gain additional insights into your auctions such as:
- Are all my similar auctions priced in a coherent and sensible way?

Do I have current auctions loaded for all my product lines?

Do I have too many similar items listed?
Depending on how you group your product items there are many more possibilities as to how you might take advantage of this feature.
One of the most powerful features of Auctionitis is the ability to update auction records in bulk. By breaking your products down into product types, you can update a range of options across all auctions with the one product type.
For example, all items with the product code CALCULATOR are shipped in a $5 courier bag. Your courier puts the price up to $6. Instead of having to individually edit each auction you can filter your auctions by product code, select all and globally update all the selected records at once.
Assigning a Product Type
Product Types can be assigned in two different ways:
- During auction input from the Relist options tab
- The Right Click menu and selecting the required Product Type
Product Types can be updated in bulk also.
