Running the Scheduler in the Tray Tool

A new tool has been developed that manages the loading of auctions, relisting, offering and other auction management functions. This tool sits in the Windows System tray and talks to Trade Me in the background while allowing auctions to be edited and managed from within Auctionitis.

The Tray tool looks after the following functions:
  1.  Update of Auctionitis Database for Sella and Trade Me
  2.  Loading of Auctions to Sella and Trade Me
  3. -Relisting of Auctions to Sella and Trade Me
  4.  Loading of images to Sella and Trade Me
  5.  Making offers on Trade Me (Sella coming soon)
  6.  Updating the Trade Me account balance
  7. Category Updates
Note that some setup is required for some of these functions to operate.

During the initial installation or upgrade, the Auctionitis Tray Tool ("AuctionTray.exe") is added to the Windows startup group. Every time the PC is rebooted the Auction Tray tool will be started and running in the Windows system Tray. You can see whether the tools is running by looking for the Auctionitis Logo in the System Tray.

If you don't want the Auction Tray tool to start up automatically them remove it
from the Startup group:
  1. In Windows: Click Start->Startup and Delete the "Auctionitis Tray Tool" item.
  2. You can also start the Auction Tray tool from within Auctionitis:
  3. In Auctionitis: Click Utilities->Start Auctionitis Tray Tool
Once the tray tool is running, the following things will happen automatically
in the background
  1. The Auctionitis Database will be updated with Sella and Trade Me data
  2. New Images will be loaded to Sella and Trade Me
  3. Offers will be made on Trade Me
  4. Your Trade Me account balance will be updated every 15 minutes
  5. Category Updates will be done automatically once a day
Additionally, the tray tool can also look after listing your auctions, relisting and also making offers without you having to click anything or set up any Windows scheduler items.

In order for Auctionitis to manage your items you will need to set up the Auctionitis Schedule details to tell the Auctionitis Tray tool what day that items should be listed, relisted and offered and what time the major listing process should be started.

You can find the Auctionitis Schedule details by clicking File->Options and then clicking the Schedule tab.

  • To have Auctions loaded on a particular day click the Load All check box
  • To have Auctions relisted on a particular day click the Relist All check box
  • To have Auctions Offered on a particular day click the Offer All check box
The Start times at the bottom of the screen indicate what time the process will start running on your PC. Allow a bit of time for any processes already running to complete, and also for the database to be updated any remaining pictures to be uploaded.

If you change the time of the day you wish the scheduled activities to commence you must stop and restart the tray tool.

If you have an Auction Cycle you want listed on a particular day, then you can click the Load Cycle checkbox and select an Auction Cycle to be loaded on the selected day.

The Load All function causes the Auctionitis Tray Tool to load all PENDING and CLONE auctions with no Auction Cycle assigned to them on the selected day at the selected time(s)

The Load Cycle function causes the Auctionitis Tray Tool to load all PENDING and CLONE auctions with the selected Auction Cycle assigned to them on the selected day at the selected time(s).

When the Offer process runs it will make offers on all auctions that have completed and have an Offer Price associated with them in Auctionitis. The offer process runs every hour checking for completed auctions and making offers whee required.

When the Relist process runs it will relist all auctions that have completed and can be relisted according to the settings in Auctionitis. It does not select according to Auction Cycle or any other criteria, it simply checks which auctions have completed and if they are set to relist it will relist them. The relist process runs every hour checking for completed auctions and relisting then where required.

The Relist Cycle checkbox and drop down are retained to ensure any existing Relist schedule items in the widnows schedule continue to work as expected but are not used by the Autionitis Tray tool.

If an option is not selected for a particular day then the process will not be run by the Auctionitis Tray Tool. For instance, if Offer All is not ticked for Friday or Saturday then offers will not be made on those days. Note that items will not be "left out", they will just wait until the next time the process runs.

You can set up the Tray Tool to process you auctions and also run the options from the Auctionitis menu options but this is not recommended. You should either control the listing and other processes from Auctionitis or let the Auction Tray Tool manage them for you.
