Upgrading from Version 3.0 to 4.0
As with past Auctionitis upgrades the upgrade will be performed automatically at a time of your choosing. However unlike previous Auctionitis upgrades this one is quite a bit more involved and time consuming. Unusually it also involves a system restart (reboot) - something we try hard to avoid.
Before Upgrading Auctionitis
Make sure you have all your housekeeping up to date as this will make the upgrade go faster. Less data also means less potential errors.
- Ensure that your version of Windows is up to date with all the latest service packs, patches etc. It’s easy and here’s how to do it. If you do need assistance and don’t have a PC ‘person’ available or are not confident on your own please do contact us and we’ll see what we can do to help you out
- Clear up Hard Drive Space
- Remove all old/unwanted Programs

Auctionitis Maintenance
- Utilities >Back Up Database
- Help >About. Ensure you are on the latest build (1564 or higher) and that you are on the latest category service date 08-04-10. Check here if you need assistance with this
- Trade Me >UpdateDB. Update your Database and clear out any unwanted/old auctions – keep the bare minimum of listings desired in Auctionitis
- Utilities >Delete Unwanted Picture Records
- Utilities >Compress Database
- Utilities >Back Up Database
Set aside some time to do the upgrade that won't affect your auction schedule. Don't do the upgrade last thing on a Monday evening, just before you want to load auctions to Trade Me - leave it until Tuesday or Wednesday morning. Get your main auction busines sout of the way before starting the upgrade. It's not that we expect problems, it's just that if there are any, we don't want to interrupt your business.
If you start the upgrade by accident - cancel it before it actually runs by not accepting the license or hitting Cancel. Until it starts this won't affect anything.
When you are ready to do the upgrade save your work in your other programs and shut them down. This upgrade requires a reboot so end everything else first so you can reboot then the install process asks you to.
Reboot when it tells you to!
When the upgrade process completes the first stage it will ask if you want to reboot; Say yes at this time to allow the upgrade to fully complete. If you say no be sure to reboot the system so that the second stage of the upgrade can run.
Don't close the progress screen!
After the system reboots the second stage of the upgrade process will start up automatically. This stage commences with another install screen and a message or two after which it will run the actual database migration process. During this migration process stage you will see a black screen with messages on it that tells you what is happening as the upgrade proceeds.
Don't close or end this screen while messages are appearing on it - while the messages are being written the process is running. We put this screen in so you can see that something is happening as the upgrade process might take a while in some cases.
When the process is finished the update will tell you it is done then the auction tray tool will start up and appear in your auction tray. You may get some firewall or security messages about this tool referring to AuctionTray.exe. You should permit this program to talk to the internet.
Once the upgrade is complete, start up Auctionitis and check out that your images and other data was successfully transferred and things are working as expected. Most of the changes are under the covers so you won't necessarily see anything obvious.
Hopefully you will just be marvelling at the speed and looking at all your data in the new database.
